Nile is a B Corp!
We’re using our business as a force for good.
When we started Nile back in 2006, one of my aims was to create a culture that I, and others, could thrive in. An environment where people brought their whole selves (and their dogs) into work.
Fast forward to today and my ambitions around culture hold more true than ever. Out of everything we offer, it’s probably the strength I’m most proud of.
I’ve always believed that culture and purpose are heavily interlinked. Larry Fink of Blackrock articulates it well:
Purpose is not a mere tagline or marketing campaign; it is a company’s fundamental reason for being – what it does every day to create value for its stakeholders. Purpose is not the sole pursuit of profits but the animating force for achieving them.”
This couldn’t be truer for Nile. Collectively, as a team and as a strategic partner to our clients, we exist to clear the path to progress. It’s the path that leads to a better world; one that’s built for an equitable future, whether that’s digitising the world’s largest insurance market or launching services that minimise the pain and stress of dealing with bereaved estates.
So it made perfect sense for us to formalise our position with B Corp Certification. As of July 2021 we are officially recognised as a B Corporation, joining 4,000 other businesses in the world actively working to make a difference. Not only is it a recognition that Nile meets the highest social, environmental and transparency standards, it also makes us legally accountable to continually balance profit and purpose.
Our journey to B Corp certification has opened my eyes to the broader implications of how we run our business. Using business as a force for good is about so much more than just its culture and bottom line. It’s the utilities, services and products we buy, it’s our inclusion of people, it’s our contribution to the local community; it’s even about where we spend our time and the missions we support.
Our journey to B Corp certification has been a long one. But we’re just getting started. Over the coming months and years, we will continue to hold ourselves accountable for creating a more sustainable and equitable future for all.
This milestone is a great marker, and I’m excited for the future changes we’ll continue to make as part of this important movement. A big thank you to our operations team, especially to Victoria, who has kept us on our own path to progress.
